I grew up working on my grandparents 10,000 acre farm in New Zealand, they ran 7000 head of sheep and 1000 head of cattle. Some of my best childhood memories are working on the farm, I loved it and I miss it!!
I now live on the other side of the world in Calgary and don’t have the luxury of a farm to escape the city lights…but I have found a way to stay involved in the agricultural industry in a slightly different way.
I now organize and host Ag based tours for groups in Canada travelling overseas to learn and network with some of the top producers and industry leaders in the world. I love it, it connects me to the industry and also gives me a sense of satisfaction to see my groups come back with such positive feedback from their trips.
Many of my groups are from agricultural based associations, where they offer their members a chance to travel with other farmers and producers across Canada to destinations like Brazil, Argentina, Germany and also Australia and New Zealand. We provide tour jackets with the Canadian flag and the association they belong advertised, we are presenting Canada in the international agricultural arena and always get a great reception.
There is so much to learn not only in our own backyard but also overseas. Networking, new technology, new business partnerships, or just a new friend on the other side of the world that you share a common bond with due to the Agricultural industry.
Many passengers have had a great farming career, many are retired and have passed on their farms to the next generation, they still love Ag and still hunger to learn and they get a kick out of travelling to some of the most amazing destinations to see what other top producers are doing!! They have earned the right to treat themselves to a trip of a life time. After 30 years odd plus years working the land they deserve it!!
There are many ways to connect and contribute to the Agricultural industry this is my way!!
