It’s true – Canada is the biggest producer of wild blueberries in the world. Wild and domestic blueberries also happen to be the number one fruit crop in Canada in terms of acreage and value. Exports in Canadian blueberries set records in 2011 with 90,979 metric tonnes exported at a value of $335,797,000. Wild blueberries are especially appealing for today’s health-conscious consumers because they are rich in antioxidants and need almost no pesticides or chemical fertilizers.
